Tanktainer refers to a specialized container designed to store or transport liquid or gaseous fuel.

Basically, it’s a fuel tank housed in either 20ft or a 40ft container and the choice of the container is ordinarily dictated by the capacity of the tank as well as other the purpose for which the Tanktainer is to be used for.

In most cases, the Tanktainer consist of the fuel storage tank, dispensing pump, all assoaciated plumbing works, electrical works, back-up genset and May or may not include an office/storage (optional) depending on usage.

In Kenya, tanktainer are mainly used by transportation companies with a fleet of trucks and vehicles, mines to fuel mining equipment which are mainly heavy fuel consumers, schools/colleges with a fleet of student’s buses, companies with a fleet of staff buses with the main objective being efficient fuel control and management.

Petrol stations have also been done using Tanktainers, though use requires approvals from EPRA.
